See It and Sink It: Mastering Putting Through Peak Visual Peformance Review

Recently, I've read Sones "Light's out putting," Pelz's "Putting Bible," and Farnsworth's "See It & Sink It." Sones is basic stuff. Pelz is interesting technical stuff with some good drills and lots of talk about mechanical aids (most of which he sells). But Farnsworth is by far the most interesting and potentially the most helpful.

Farnsworth analyzes the way we see, judge distance and break, and the problems many of us have with how we see. All the drills and practice in the world won't help much if the the target isn't were we think or visualize it is. And many of us simply don't see straight, even many pros. This book helps figure out our shortcomings in this area, how to overcome them, and how to retrain the way we see.

Has this ever happened to you? You seem to miss most of your putts to the right. You draw a straight line on the ball, line it up to the hole and now find your missing most of your putts to the left! This book will help you figure out what's going on here. It's invaluable.

See It and Sink It: Mastering Putting Through Peak Visual Peformance Overview

Dr. Craig L. Farnsworth, an optometrist and nationally recognized putting consultant to Nick Faldo, Tom Kite, Steve Elkington, Mark Wiebe and other top tour players, reveals the secrets of his unique, highly successful system.

Farnsworth believes that missed putts are more often caused by visual misperceptions than by faulty stroke mechanics. This invaluable, easy-to-follow guide shows golfers how to alter their visual perceptions by "rewiring" their eye-brain reality -- helping them to understand how to see and to establish accuracy of what is seen. See It and Sink It  presents Farnsworth's winning method, which is based on the fact that in order to excel, one must develop accurate and enduring visual performance skills, such as eye-hand coordination, target localization, accuracy of visualization, space matching, visual discrimination and concentration. These are the essential basics to be able to align properly, judge distance and speed and to read the green. Step-by-step exercises are provided so readers can easily adapt the "Farnsworth System" -- the same system that helped Nick Faldo to win the 1996 Master's Tournament -- to master their own putting.

MRC1938 - Nick A. ciampone - Cincinnati
The book is very technical and tedius, but the theory works very well. I think it verifies what I have been trying to do for years and have not been able to define. It accounts for being so hot with the putter one day and so not the next.

little John - J. Clark -
Dr. Farnsworth takes the approach that the little muscles of the eyes control the big muscles of the body. If you follow his advice and proceedure, you will become a better putter.

Poor Vision - -
Farnsworth's "U-factor" and "circuitry rewriting" imitate pseudoscience. Pelz's books are much more scientific and his claims are based upon much more reliable data. Farnsworth claims that the eyes are the dominant sensory system and somehow control the body and mind, none of which are substantiated.

Another good putting book is Todd Sones's Lights Out Putting. It is well written and easier to get through than one of Pelz's books, but Pelz designed his books for the serious student who wants a good reference book.

Golf Instruction Is Only Part Of The Equation

Golf instruction is critical in understanding the mechanics of the golf swing. I am a firm believer in golf instruction. However, golf instruction is not the ONLY component to optimal golf performance.

I believe the BEST combination for maximizing your golf potential is golf instruction, mental golf AND the physical (fitness) side of golf.

You see, golf is a very demanding and stressful sport on your body.

To stand in a somewhat stationary position, while swinging a 3 foot long club at over 80 miles an hour, takes a tremendous amount of both strength and flexibility.

Do you agree?

I mean, how many times have you fallen off balance during your swing? Be honest. I'll bet more times than you can count.

Why do you think this happens?

Mainly, because you're swinging beyond what your body is physically capable of, while maintaining adequate stability.

The result is mishits, shorter distance on all clubs and even injury.

What's the answer?

Get your body in shape, to take advantage of your lessons and optimize your potential. Taking this approach will result in the quickest transformation of your game. No doubt.

Here's just one example of taking a lesson and not being physically capable of doing it.

Your golf instructor noticed you have a restricted backswing and tells you, you need to get a 90 degree shoulder turn with only a 45 degree hip turn.

That's the optimum position for power and distance.

You try and try and can't do it. Now you get frustrated that you've taken a golf lesson, but can't do what your golf instructor wanted you to do.

Try as you might, unless you address the physical limitations that are keeping you from attaining that ideal position, you'll NEVER get it!

So continuing to take lessons and not address "your" limitations is fruitless.

So the morale of the story?

Work on your BODY and your swing will get BETTER quickly!
