Golf The Hard Way Review

I find this book very funny, whitty and insightful. As a hacker I found many of the stories and examples to be right on. I would suggest this book to any one who has every picked up a club! I could not put it down...

Golf The Hard Way Overview

A humorous look at golf for the average "hacker" who finds the usual golf instruction books and teaching methods far too complicated. Originally the idea of their father, in response to the book "Golf The Easy Way", this book is the Kroll brothers' tribute to their father, and realization of his dream.

Golf Swing Instruction - Don't Slice, Fix it With This Set Up Tip For Duffers

Whenever I have the chance to watch someone's golf swing I take notice of several key points in their golf swing.  I am an analyst by profession and nature. I observe their set up, posture, take away, transition, impact position and finish.

After years of doing this, I have developed a little game that I play with myself and the guys in my weekend group. Once a player under observation assumes their address position I try to predict where the ball will end up.

I am most often right. The sad thing is that many of those golfers, low and high handicappers alike are destined for failure before they even before they begin their takeaway. They are victims of one of the most common set up faults golfers face. Are you? If you slice odds would indicate you are among the afflicted.

Most golfers get so much right that it is such a sad shame that they miss on this one area. I watch them stand behind the ball to begin the pre-shot routine, from there they choose a target line and shot shape. They walk over and approach the ball from 90 degrees to the line they chose. Then they step up to the ball to assume their address position, toes parallel to the line, some even include their knees and hips to that alignment.

But for those who suffer from an unintended and often uncontrollable fade/slice ball flight pattern it is at this point that the takeaway begins and the ball flies away...away to the right curving toward whatever hazard or obstruction the course designer has included to punish the errant golfer. The longer the club the more offline the shot becomes. Those folks selling used balls are smiling about now.

So to repeat what is often heard after one of these errant shots, "What was that all about?". So many times the golfer doesn't have a clue as to why or they blame the innocent. Grip, lie, wind, ball position and a host of others stand falsely accused of causing the slice. They all could be the culprit but not in this case.

More times than not the slice is caused by the shoulders. Remember when we discussed the golfers set up earlier? The last step is achieving the proper set up alignment is to align the shoulders to parallel with the target line.

Here is how this step goes wrong so often. When the golfer is nearing completion of the set up he squares the shoulders to the target line as he should. But then he reaches forward with his trailing hand to grip the club. This is when the fatal flaw occurs.

Because the back hand must set lower on the club than the forward hand this forces the back shoulder of the golfer to move forward toward the ball while the target side shoulder moves back away from the ball.

Now the shoulders which were once parallel to the target line are now open to the target line. Since the feet, knees and hips are still square this forces the swing to cut across the ball creating a glancing strike which imparts slice spin unless some other swing adjustment is made.

So here is a solution so simple it will amaze you. To get the shoulders back to square after gripping the club with the trailing hand, move the trailing shoulder back until it is even with the feet, knees and hips on that same side. To accommodate the lower position of the trailing hand the shoulders should be tilted with the front shoulder slightly higher than the rear shoulder.

This will feel very uncomfortable, even unnatural to you at first. But I urge you stick with it until you master it.

Now you can begin the backswing with the club comfortably moving away from the ball on the target line at first then up and back to complete the backswing. As your swing returns down and through the ball along your body line you'll be shocked at how much more solidly you will strike the ball. Say goodbye to the slice!

A slice is among the most hated and embarrassing ball flights a golfer can know. And those promising to cure the slice abound all over the internet. Some don't have a clue. Some do. Try this simple but effective tip. If you are like most and slice because of open shoulders at address then you have found your permanent solution here today.
