Customer Care - Keeping the Customer Happy
Businesses exist in order to meet the individual needs of the clients or customers they have. The Customer is king in as far as the business is willing and able to attend to the desires and wishes of the customer. Without enough customers, business performance suffers immensely. Your business type may not be unique in terms of the products you are selling but it is the way you serve your customers that determines if you will always have repeat business or not. Failure to care for the needs of the customer will see them moving to the next competitor who is available and able to meet the needs of the customer. Competition thrives on the weaknesses of other players on the same market. If one can provide a service which is beyond what everyone else is doing on the market they you are assured that your customers will always be happy and satisfied. Make the customer feel like a king who on one instruction gets things done. People will change their schedules, budgets and commitments and shift all their priorities just to ensure that the king is taken care of. That is the way customers expect to be treated and handled.
A few simple tips
- A regular call - It is important to keep contact with the customer through the phone. Sometimes while discussing the customer's welfare e.g you hear that they were sick for 3 days, you probably call to check on their health. You do not necessarily need to ask for business in every call. The goal must be to establish a good relationship with the customer.
- An email to check on them and give them updates - This is by far one of the cheapest ways to communicate. Once in a while just drop an email either with updates on their job, their order or simply checking on them. You will be surprised that customers may soon forget you if you do not keep them informed.
- A regular visit / meeting - Where necessary, you can book for a meeting for an eye to eye discussion on certain matters. When you realize that you have had enough emails to the same customer, it is wise to then send an email requesting to meet so that issues are discussed and ironed out quicker.
- Invitations to promotional events - Whenever you have new products on promotion, you need to invite some of your faithful customers to come and view them. They will never know unless they are informed. give them priority when new releases of products come.
- Courtesy items while you service theirs - While you are repairing their car or computer, it would be good to reduce down time by giving them another one to use in the interim. After all you want them to feel important and remain productive as they raise money for the quotation you gave them.
- A day out of office on the golf course - It should never be always about business. Take time out and relax on the golf course or any such sport that the customer like. Organize sports tournaments and get your customers to enjoy these added benefits
- An occasional party to celebrate the customer - Throw a little cocktail once in a while and make the customer feel important.
- Small gifts of gratitude - This is not to be confused with bribes. A personalised diary, calendar, gold shirt and so on are promotional items you can prepare without feeling guilty. You would feel bad if you were sending envelopes with cash in them; then we call this a bribe
