Check Out The Art of Scoring...in Golf

The Art of Scoring...in Golf Review

I have been a recreational to avid golfer for the last 15 years, and I have read many published articles on how to improve a variety of aspects of ones game. What the author has accomplished with this book is to dispell some of the myths of this game regarding size, power, and overall ability as it relates to your final score, making it possible for the rest of us who aren't Tiger Woods to achieve low scores. This book breaks down the fundamentals, from addressing the ball to basic swing mechanics, and ultimately shows us the quickest way to lower golf scores, improving the short game. It was a quick read, with a mixture of humor as he descibes his various partners over the years, to the deep sentiment he has for this fantastic, yet frustrating game. For all of you looking to score, in golf... I have already read this book more than once, and you will too.

It tells how to read the greens from the practice area. He talks about the short game and how to do it. How to think about each hole being a par 3. Practical scoring tips. Advice on gambling and different personalities you meet. It gives advice on the approach to make the game fun and rewarding. This book gives you this and other swing tips on executing a good score.

easy, enjoyable, educational reading - -
This is unlike any golf-oriented book I've read. There are segments on recognizing the different "types of players," ones that we've all played with, an explanation of various types of friendly wagering, a glossary of clubhouse golfing terms, and just enough tips on what the author considers the most important part of golf,... the short game... that have worked for me. This easy-read book is a "keeper" that I will refer back to at various times.

Are Golf Lessons Worth The Price?

Basic Golf Instruction

Ask yourself the question, People take up golf for various reasons. Looking at the sport with untrained eye, "Are Golf Lessons Worth The Price?" It really doesn't seem like it's all that difficult. The goal of the game is to get the little ball into the hole with as few attempts as possible. This seems like a relatively easy goal and something most people can achieve on their own.

However, if you go out on the golf course unassisted you will find yourself spending more time searching for your ball in the rough or fishing it out of water hazards than you will actually playing a good game of golf. There's no need to be frustrated, it happens to pretty much everyone unless of course you began your career as a three year old phenom.

One of the most difficult aspects of picking up the game of golf is learning to drive the ball. It should be simple enough. The idea is to wrap your hands around the club, keep your body straight, pull back and swing. Unfortunately, those first few principles don't even begin to cover the basic golf swing.

Any half decent golf instructor will tell you that the ultimate goal is to keep your head perfectly still during the entire swing. If you are trying to hit the ball too hard, your end result will be somewhere off in the tall grass hunting for a little white ball that you now want to bash into pieces. By now you are asking yourself "Are Golf Lessons Worth The Price?"

Relax your body and your muscles before even attempting to swing. Trying to hit the ball too hard with tense muscles typically have poor results. Any golf instructor will tell you that focused energy will make the ball sail farther and straighter. That focus comes from a relaxed body and a head that doesn't bobble about.

By being able to keep your head in a stationary position, you can keep a solid focus on the ball and bring your energy directly to the center of the ball with a flat club. Your stationary head will also automatically send the signal to your hands to turn correctly and at the right time. This timing is crucial to your follow through and allowing the ball to maintain a straighter trajectory.

Maintaining your balance is important to creating a long and straight drive as well. Golf instructors report spending a significant percentage of lesson time focusing on keeping the head straight and balancing the body. Balancing the body in a game of golf is more than simply not falling over. It is about evenly distributing the body weight in all directions. Most people are able to maintain a good percentage of left and right balance, but often the front and back balance needs to be taught by a qualified golf instructor.

When playing golf, the head angles downward to allow the golfer to see the ball and maintain focus. This position encourages poor posture and the body weight to edge too far forward. A qualified golf instructor can assist a golfer in finding a good and solid position that is more balanced to allow for a much better swing. This is an unnatural position for most people and often there is a great benefit in taking some lessons from a qualified golf instructor to help correct the problem. Are you still asking yourself "Are Golf Lessons Worth The Price?"

It is often recommended to watch oneself in front of the mirror to help correct imbalanced golf swings. This trick can help produce a much better swing, but keep in mind while you are watching yourself you are not watching where the ball should be. This is where a qualified golf instructor can really benefit both the novice and practiced golfer. Often someone else's eyes can pick up on what we ourselves cannot.

If you are self coaching instead of taking the advice of a qualified golf instructor, read as often as you can about methods of improving your golf swing. There are countless helpful articles, tips and news on the best-pro-golf-guide website. Remember that while the information presented on the web site is very good and comes with high recommendations, it is also valuable to recognize that every human body is unique and it may take a little trial and error to really get things moving in the right direction. Often the articles presented can enhance instruction given by a qualified golf instructor. The goal is achieve the best results in as little time as possible, and it can be advantageous to combine both resources.

The Benefits of Private Golf Lessons, "Are Golf Lessons Worth The Price?"

Private golf lessons can be quite costly. One of the first things to examine if you are considering taking private golf lessons is your motivation for doing so. Are you looking to use golf for business relations or are you simply interested in the game? Those who are looking to be able to tee off with clients or the boss can gain quite a bit very quickly by soliciting the help of a qualified golf instructor for private lessons.

If you are truly not interested in perfecting your game and simply want to hold your own with your clients on the golf course, a qualified golf instructor can help tailor your golf education to help improve your weaknesses without training you for eventual professional competitions. Often business people will pay top dollar for a qualified golf instructor to produce significant results in a short amount of time. If you view it as a business investment, the money you are paying the qualified golf instructor seems much more reasonable.

If, however you are interested in the game of golf and you enjoy the sport, a qualified golf instructor can give you accurate, cutting edge guidance in improving the quality of your game. You can insist on perfecting your basics and move through the process more slowly and gain a remarkable amount of information from a qualified golf instructor. Again, private golf lessons can be quite expensive, so it's a good idea to make sure that not only are you motivated enough to make good use of the instruction provided, but that you will have the required time to devote to practice.

Whatever your reason is for choosing private golf lessons, you will have to devote ample time to practice. Practice is the key to any sport, and despite its simple appearance, golf is not any different. When choosing an instructor you should ask them how much practice time they prefer to see from their students. Any instructor who does not emphasis practice time is not interested in your overall success and is more interested in keeping you their student (and their income) for as long as possible. This is not the foundation for a healthy qualified golf instructor and student relationship.

The Benefits of Group Golf Instruction, "Are Golf Lessons Worth The Price?"

Group golf instruction is available and can be much less expensive. Group golf instruction may or may not fit your current needs, but for many people it is a premium option as it fits nicely into their golfing budget. Remember that you not only have to pay any qualified golf instructor, but you more than likely will need to pay club fees and tee fees. These extra fees are not only for lesson time, but for the ever needed practice time as well. Often the total cost of everything involved is quite high and opting for a group lesson is more feasible. If you are worried and concerned "Are Golf Lessons Worth The Price?" Then this might be the option and a grate way to learn the game.

Group golf instruction also allows for a quiet gathering of novice golfers who are simply trying to improve on their skill. Often the pressure that comes with a round of golf with the boss is alleviated during group golf instruction. Group golf instruction typically allows for you to choose which direction you would like your golf instruction to head. There are groups offered for driving, putting, hazards, and basic skills. While you can explain to a private qualified private golf instructor that you feel you need to focus on a specific area, groups are often tailored to specific, targeted skills.

If you are interested in group golf instruction but want to enhance your learning experience, you can add the informative tips provided on best-pro-golf-guide to your golfing repertoire. Combining the article information with the qualified group golf instructor's advice and the tips of those in the group lesson with you may very well be an adequate combination of sources for you to seriously improve your golf game without breaking the bank.

Selecting a Qualified Private Golf Instructor, "Are Golf Lessons Worth The Price?"

If you have decided to engage a qualified private golf instructor to hone your golf skills, don't rush into a commitment. It's better to shop for a high quality instructor rather than just rush into lessons with the first person willing to give them. Ask a lot of questions before beginning. If you know that someone else is taking private golf lessons, as them how they feel about the quality of the instruction they are getting. Is the golf instructor punctual? Do they always give the full scheduled lesson or do they shave a few minutes off here and there? What are their cancellation policies? If the instructor cancels are you entitled to a free makeup lesson? How often do they cancel?

It is perfectly acceptable to request references from a potential private golf instructor. Most will have a reference sheet readily available for you as it is a fairly common practice. It is also acceptable to interview the instructor prior to committing to the lessons.

Keep in mind that just because someone has excelled in their sport doesn't mean that they excel at teaching it. There are plenty of high ranking golfers who make excellent instructors, but there are some who truly can only play the game. Don't get stars in your eyes and be a bit skeptical if their credential sheet has an overwhelming number of golfing achievements but no teaching credentials or achievements. Someone who presents with a solid mix of both teaching and golfing achievements may very well make for a better instructor. Golf instruction, or any kind of sport instruction, is really about the ability to communicate the skills rather than perform them.

Choose wisely and often you will find the experience of learning to play golf quite enjoyable. For more tips and references about everything golf, visit BestProGolfGuide.

Golf Beginner - Here Are Some Valuable Tips

The single best choice out of all gifts for the golf beginner is golf lessons. There is nothing that the beginning golfer can benefit from more.

Even the best of golfers could use a tip or two at times to improve their game. Tiger Woods did not learn golf overnight. Tiger, probably the best golfer in the world, still takes lessons. Certified Golf Professionals are the ideal trainers, fully qualified to teach you how to play the game.

Beginner Tips - The Secret Tip Every Beginner Golfer Should Know

What makes golf so complex when compared to other sports? There are a few reasons, however exactitude is probably the number one factor when comparing the game of golf to other activities. You have much less room for error compared to sports like baseball, for example.

Baseball uses a much bigger ball and you have a comparatively larger bat to swing with. You have several chances of hitting the ball to make a play. And of course you then have the benefit of other players to help you accomplish your goal of either getting to the home plate, or making field plays to cause the other team to reach 3 outs so that your team can move up to bat.

With golf, you must hit the ball perfect each and every time you are up for your shot. You have one swing and that's it. The room for error is so minuscule due to the tiny size of the ball and the clubface. And with people watching, the pressure can really cause those nerves to get a bit uneasy. This is why golf is a lot harder than most people think.

Beginner Tip: Take It Slow

For those of you that are new to golf and have not quite grasped what we are trying to explain here about the difficulty levels of the sport, you should take time to follow a few basic tips that every seasoned golfer adhered to when they first started playing.

What is the most important tip for beginners? Take the game slow and keep things simple. The obstacles of golf for the beginner player are mostly mental. With the intensity of concentration, focus, and pressure from an audience, one of the best tips that you can appreciate is to simply take it slow.

Learn the game at whatever pace suits you. Many newbie golfers tend to go all out, buy a brand-new set of golf clubs, hit the ball at a driving range for a few days, and then immediately run out and start playing on a prestigious 18-hole golf course.

I understand that you are probably excited and want to jump right in headfirst, but compare the game to swimming. Before you knew how to swim, did you just dive into the deep section of your local swimming pool? Of course not. How could you expect to do the same with golf?

Moving too fast will only lead to frustration and eventually you will quit playing.

Let's Play Golf Review

In her delightful book, LET'S PLAY GOLF, Florine Hager mixes technical advice with entertaining stories of her life as a golf instructor. In conversational style, she breathes breadth and depth into what has always seemed to me a rather pallid game. I appreciated the author's insights and her perspective, not to mention her occasional, uplifting humor. This book is a joy to read, whether one plays golf or not.

Let's Play Golf Overview

A GOOD BEGINNING opens this informative and interesting new golf book, whose primary premise is keeping the golf swing simple. The first chapter describes the overlapping grip, the one used by the majority of golfers worldwide. Each chapter covers a fundamental, with a short story from Florine Hager’s lesson tee that points to the main emphasis in the chapter. In this book, you will find a simple method for playing different shots with the club designed for that shot, understanding how that equipment is used, and the importance of choosing the right club for each shot. Putting is the simplest shot in golf and it is wise to learn to stroke a putt properly before going to the next easiest shot, the chip shot. It is well worth the time and patience it takes to understand these two simple strokes before incorporating what you learn from them into the full swing.

How Golf Instructional Videos Can Take Your Game To The Next Level

I've been providing golf instruction for many years. And while I enjoy giving golf lessons and discussing golf tips, there's something to be said about golf instructional videos as teaching aids. Increasingly popular, videos have several advantages other instruction methods don't. Below are four advantages that I especially like about videos.

1. Visual Learning

We're all different and we all like to learn in our own way. Research has found that two major categories of preferred learning styles exist--visual and auditory. (Those who use both are referred to as "balanced" listeners.) In other words, when it comes to learning new information we prefer to use either our eyes or our ears, depending on how our brain works. About 65 percent of us are visual learners. The rest are auditory or balanced learners. I see this theory at work in my golf lessons all the time. People prefer to see a technique or a specific shot executed, enhancing the learning process.

Instructional videos provide an excellent learning experience, given our preference for learning visually. Many of us tend to learn new information faster and retain it longer when the information is taken in through our eyes, making videos highly effective teaching tools. In addition, videos can provide two or three times the amount of information in a visual setting than other methods. One golf video I viewed covered the basics of golf in a little less than an hour. Thus, golfers not only receive information in their preferred learning style but also in greater quantities, reinforced by the latest visual techniques.

2. Money Savings

In comparison to a typical hourly lesson rate of anywhere from $50-$150 for a PGA Pro, a golf instruction DVD can provide that same information at a fraction of the cost. Better yet, you can watch it over and over again...without getting charged hourly.

3. Stop and Rewind

This technological capability must be singled out for its unique communication capabilities. Unlike a personal presentation, the instructional video allows the viewer to stop and rewind the tape, either from the beginning or from a certain point in the script. In other words, it lets us replay the tape again and again, helping us learn through repetition.

The capability also helps with complicated golf techniques. We can rewind the tape over and over again and watch how a shot was made, imprinting it in our minds. It's especially helpful with difficult shots. Once we have this visual representation in our minds, making the shot when we face it becomes much easier.

4. Unique Technological Capabilities

Instructional videos employ the medium's unique technological capabilities to drive home key points effectively--capabilities that support information presentation. Golf instructional videos use split screens, inserts, close-ups, and computer generated 3-D graphics to teach the game's fundamentals such as how to grip, aim, and swing the club as well as how to create the proper angles at address and how to take the club back correctly.

These techniques also help maintain our interest, especially when combined with other visual aides. There's nothing more boring in person, on television or during movies than watching a talking head. Human beings crave action, movement, and so on. If we don't get it, we get bored quickly and turn our attention to other things, lowering the effectiveness of the presentation. Keeping us interested helps us focus on the material being presented.

In addition, the capability lets us hone in on details we might have missed the first time around, as well as things that we couldn't see in print, like rhythm, balance, and timing. Much of our golf game depends on these details and key intangibles, and much depends on our getting a "feel" for what the moderator is talking about and demonstrating.

These are just four of the unique benefits provided by instructional videos. If you sat down and studied the question, you probably could come up with several more. These benefits explain golf instructional videos' popularity over the last decade or so, and why they are so efficient in communicating information to a golfer. In short, they are cost-effective teaching tools for the average golfer.

Of course, we're not saying that you should abandon all other instructional methods, like golf lessons and golf tips. Each makes a contribution to the learning process and each has its place among the different techniques. Golf lessons, for example, are great at providing feedback and correcting faults.

By combining teaching methods, however, you'll learn the game faster than using just one method. You'll also learn to lower your golf handicap faster using several teaching approaches than one. And isn't that what golf instruction is all about?

Golf - The Best Instruction Book Ever (My Quest For it and What I Really Discovered)

When I first picked up golf, I went to Google and searched for "golf the best instruction book ever" . If you're reading this, then it's highly likely you just did the same. When I started my drives were short, my putt was off and my score was well above 100. Simply take two minutes to read on and I'll save you hours of searching for the much coveted "holy grail" manual to golf. I'll also share with you tips from a golf legend which transformed my golf strategy.

Will reading a golf book improve your game? The answer is yes. Yes if you're new to the game. Yes, if you've put in hours of practice at the driving range and can't seem to get any consistent results. Most especially a yes if you're contemplating investing in a new set of irons out of pure desperation. Even the great Greg Norman started from a book.

It was legendary US PGA, British Open and US Open winner Tom Armour that put things in perspective. While by far this wasn't what I was looking for when I was searching for "golf - the best instruction book ever", this text only, no pictures book gave me a simple 2 step strategy.

Tom recaps how one of his students sends the ball into the rough on the first hole. Tom stopped him from using a 5 iron and hands him an 8 instead. He then instructed his student to aim for the fairway, try pitching on the green and close with a 1 putt. The student finished the round at a 78.

The 2 principles from the text were simple:

1) ALWAYS play the shot you can execute MOST predictably. Even the pros have bad swing days, but they always know which shots they're best at to get them out of the ditches.

2) Play THIS shot in a way that will make the NEXT shot easiest. In other words plan 1 shot ahead.

Golf Caps Present a New Twist on Old Style Fashions

Golf Caps are the latest trend and not just for golfers. This genre of hats has hit a new high for head fashions. It used to be that a visor, or more traditional hat was the only style seen outside of the old school argyle caps. Now days, there are all kinds of golf caps that are great on or off the greens.

Starting with the traditional golf caps, the styles, colors and fabrics have all benefitted from fashion forward thinking. No longer are the loud plaid patterns or dull grays the only choice. With bright colors contrasting in blues, yellows, beiges, blacks and deep browns, the golf cap of yesteryear is newer and better than ever with a slight twist on the argyles and stripes.

The baseball style golf hats are always a good fit, lightweight and provide decent levels of protection from the sun. For the younger crowd, the trucker cap has indeed made its way onto the fairways. I'm sure several old timers are not so pleased, but these golf caps from Nickent bring style and comfort with the wider brim and increased area for ventilation. TaylorMade has a great line of hats and visors as well and you will see an edgier more mischievous look to them like the Nighthawk Tour Golf Caps in camouflage or jet black. These caps are definitely the latest fashions seen on pros from golf to surfing. With athletes crossing over into multiple sports the styles and fashions are following suit offering great renditions of the traditional apparel and gear.

A favorite among the ladies are the linen hats. These frame the female face better than a traditional baseball style hat and they come in a great selection of colors. Lightweight and easy on the hair, these hats make a day on the course enjoyable and don't leave that awful hat line that most hats do. Visors are also popular among women for the same reason. Shielding the eyes and protecting the face from harmful UV rays is necessary, and visors do the trick without resulting in the hat head look that requires keeping the hat just to avoid embarrassment.

Army caps are the newest style to hit the golf circuit. These caps are not only attractive on most people, but you can't help but have a sense of patriotism when adorned with one. Made of spandex and cotton twill, these hats give men the same benefit that linen hats do for the ladies. Softer on the hairline, the likelihood of creases is as slim as the shaft of your driver.

Regardless of the style, golf caps are a great addition to any wardrobe and make for a little much needed variety on the greens. Wherever you reside, golf season is hitting its' stride and it's time to get out there. So, find a hat that best suits you and make a statement next time you head out to the fairway. Stay tuned for more tips on Golf apparel, spring fashions and hiking attire.

How Can I Lower My Golf Handicap

Sure, Tiger Woods is physically gifted and has practiced golf for years. But that's not what Makes Tiger so great. It's his mental makeup, intestinal fortitude, heart of a champion, or what ever you want to call it that makes him stand above the others. But enough about Tiger, what about you? How can you get to that point, where you just know you are going to hit a great golf shot every time you step up to the ball. Let me share with you a few mental muscle building techniques that I think will really help you out. If you are already a decent golfer and have the proper swing techniques down then this is the part of your game you are really going to want to focus on to take you game to the next level. If you're a beginner and are still struggling to find that proper swing technique, then I will explain some things you can work on as well. But let's start with the mental aspect of the game first.

Have you ever noticed that the real good looking, successful, confident guys are typically the best golfers in your group. If you haven't, think back with some of your buddies or relative who you've played with and see if I am right. The reason being is because success translates to all areas of your life. Confidence breeds confidence. Being a lousy golfer is usually due to a bad self image or lack of self esteem. If this is an area in life where you struggle and you want to get better in (trust me your golf game will improve as your self image improves) I would suggest begin a reading program. I'm not going to recommend any particular books, but you can Google the subject and see what comes up. Try to read at least one book a month and see how much your self confidence grows in a 12 month span (it won't happen over night).

Now for some more golf specific mental help... If you don't envision every shot before you swing, you're missing out on a huge aspect of what makes the great ones great. Not just in golf but every sport. You have to see that drive going down the middle of the fairway, you have to actually see in your mind that 7 iron dropping the ball right next to the pin. You have to see that putt dropping in the bottom of the cup. Start visualizing EVERY shot and watch your handicap get lower and lower.

Another mental edge you can get is by getting into the zone for each shot. I'm going to steal this from a Kevin Costner in For Love of the Game where he says "Clear the mechanism". If you really want to be great at golf, you have to completely eliminate all distractions around you. You shouldn't hear other golfers talking, birds chirping, etc. You need to get in the zone and focus on nothing but hitting the great shot you just imagined in your mind.

If you can work on those 3 things, I guarantee you will lower your handicap immensely. Golf truly is a mental game. You spend so much time on the practice range working on technique, you need to spend equal amount of time working on the mental aspect of the game. If you are a beginner, or just need help with the physical part of the game (don't we all) I can help with that also.

Golfing Vacation in Spain

Playing golf is one of the best ways of keeping fit. Golf is a sport in which individual players or teams hit a ball into a hole using various clubs, and also is one of the few ball games that do not use a fixed standard playing area. Nowaday's golf is the unofficial sport of the business world. It is often said that board meetings merely confirm decisions that are actually made on the golf course.

There are large number of golf courses, clubs and other golfing facilities throughout the world. Spain with its sunny climate and stunning landscapes has long been a popular tourist destination for Europeans, especially the Costa del Sol. To cater for a sizable ex-pat and tourist interest Spain has a fine selection of golf courses in the popular areas.

Since the golf boom of the 1980's golf in Spain has never been more popular especially in the region of Andalucia in southern Spain where the growth has been staggering, starting from a base of just twenty five courses, Andalucia has taken giant strides on the way to becoming a golfing destination now offering eighty five golf courses.

The most popular golfing region of Spain is the Costa del Sol, which has 45 golf courses. The Costa del Sol is extremely accessible, with daily flights to Malaga from all airports in England. The most popular resorts are Marbella, Puerto Banus and Fuengirola. However there are many unspoiled areas left to discover.

There are many golf holiday packages that offer offers you a good range of accommodation to suit all expectations and funds from the five star luxury resorts to the self catering option of apartments so what ever your preference.

Through the years of golf development there have been some differences of opinions among golf professionals regarding various details of mechanics and golf playing techniques. The quickest and most effective way to playing good golf is through study and practice. For that many golf course centers help you to gain the necessary knowledge of what to do and how to do it. Practice will develop your skill and playing technique; experience will develop your judgment.

Golf Instruction - Putting Like A Tiger

I would like to share a bit of golf putting instruction that helped improve my game. I learned this morsel of putting information while watching Tiger Woods on television a few years back. The best thing about this putting technique is that you can immediately see results by just following Tiger Wood's example.

As that great baseball philosopher Yogi Berra once said, "You can observe a lot just by watching." Anyway, here is what I observed. After Tiger went through his putting ritual, he made his practice putting strokes behind the ball while facing the cup.

Since he was facing the cup, Tiger was getting a much better view of the break of his putt. Instead of addressing his putt and turning his head down the putting line, was seeing the line by better using his bicameral vision.

Also when he was making his practice putt behind the ball, he was getting a feel for the distance of the putt. I feel like the extra couple of feet that he was standing behind the ball made him a bolder putter. Of course, the cameras follow Tiger all around the golf course and I was able to really study his technique.

Sitting there in my easy chair on a lazy Sunday afternoon, I was getting some golf putting instruction from the best player in the world. I could not wait to get to the golf course after studying Tiger Wood's putting method. I had to see if this method would work for me.

Well, the results could not have been more clear or more immediate. I was able to see the line more clearly and felt more confident as I walked around to address the putt. This method has definitely helped my putting.

I feel like it would be helpful to other avid recreational golfers. I am not sure if Tiger still uses this method before he putts. If he still does, you can watch him the next time he is on television and benefit from this very helpful golf putting instruction.

Let the best player in the world help improve your putting technique like he helped improve mine.

In Your Golf Swing, Do You Swing the Clubhead or Do You Swing Your Hands?

By now you know that I am completely hung up on angles in the golf swing. And that I see golf swing instruction ignoring this most important segment on a regular basis.

It drives me nuts.

One way to make absolutely sure that you dismiss your angles in the golf swing too early is to have a conscience objective in your mind to swing the clubhead.

This will provide you with proof that releasing the angles too early is a deadly move for a golfer. Maintaining angles through impact is the key to great ball striking. The problem has been, the written word provides less than adequate golf swing instruction for this vital move.

It is incredible difficult to get the message through to a reader. It is far better to be one on one, on the range, where you can actually see these angles. But since that is not possible, I continue to try and figure out ways to describe the angles and also methods for you all to try to see if you can get the idea.

You will not believe how magical it is to maintain these angles, just for a couple of swings. The ball will jump of your club like you have never experienced before.

So, with that in mind.. let's try this. From this point forward release the idea that you are swinging the clubhead. You do not need to do that, nor should you.

It is far more reliable to swing your hands. Once you have a decent plane to swing on. Start the whole thing by swinging your hands and not the clubhead.

You see, when you swing the clubhead, you will almost always have the clubhead moving faster than your hands. And the result is that the clubhead will out race your hands to the impact position. In other words, the clubhead will be ahead of your hands.

This is an early release position. A very serious power drain, and can lead to an over the top move. Which can and most often does, lead to a slice. UGH!

So keeping it simple. Create the right wrist angle at setup but pushing your right wrist bent. Move the angle into the backswing with your shoulders maintaining the angle between the back of your right hand and your right forearm.

This will put you in the " trayed" wrist position. This is one of the most important angles.

Now forget all about the clubhead. Swing your hands as fast as you can.

Ladies and Gentlemen.. this is a drill.

Try it.

Remember, Angles equal leverage, leverage equal power.

No angles, no leverage, no power.

This is a magic move. Every good player has great angles and they keep them for as long as they can.

Golf Instruction, What To Do When Your Golf Swing Quits Working

Picture this, you have arrived at the range and are ten minutes into your practice. So far you have hit the ball great and are really getting into the groove that you thought you could. And it sure feels good to get that confident feeling on every shot. Right?

Ok .. so all of a sudden, out of no where, you can't seem to repeat the earlier move. You are now stink'n up the joint with one bad swing after another. And you know that if this keeps up you won't be worth a crap. But you keep at it. Swing after swing after swing. Results? You suck!

In total disgust and anger at this point you ponder what the next move is. Go home. Stay and work it out. Go putt. Chip? Maybe hit some mini swings with full swing fundamentals.

And, yes, people are looking at you. Making you feel even more useless and exposed. This is not what you came here for. So, go home. That's right go home. Go now before you change your mind and start the foolishness all over again. Go on!!

Or........... you could try and figure out what the heck happened to your swing. Thinking that this could happen while you were playing, you should find a way to fix it.

Ok, I agree. Good idea to fix the thing while you are there. No time like right now. Going home is the sissy way out and will leave a bad taste in your mouth and a bad swing on the range.

Bad ideas, both.

So here is what we all should do.

First go get a drink of water or take a short walk and take three deep breaths, exhaling slowly.

And believe this, it happens all the time. Even some of the best players have this exact same issue from time to time. It's no wonder golf is such a brain twister.

So what to do.

It always gets back to basics. I know that sounds kinda cope outish. But it is the most realistic comment that anyone could make in this instance.

Re-check your grip. Double check your alignment. Triple check your ball position.

Is your posture still good? Spine angle still strong and straight. Sometimes there is a leaning toward getting a tad lazy with the little things and it gets a bit too comfortable, forgetting that all the little things in your set- up are precursors to a good solid swing.

Miss one and you mess up all the rest.

Once you have checked all of these, time for the first move. Make sure you set your angles and keep them through out what you are about to do. ( I assume you are using a lofted iron)

Now with good angles, move to the half backswing position, but make sure your shoulders turn fully. That would be 90 degrees to the target line. Or left shoulder under your chin.

The chest moves the arms and hands as they are now not active. Just let them go along for the ride. Remember to maintain your angles. This is a half swing with the arms and hands.

Your move to the golf ball is filled with objectives, but we will only be using one.

Keep you angles intact all the way through impact. However you have to do this, you must do this.

Some find that they can mentally connect the arms to the shoulders and just turn the shoulders and of course the arms go with them.

This is a minny move, you are not trying to hit the ball anywhere. You are trying to get sequence and timing, along with a sense of control back to where you are in charge of yourself.

Tempo, sequence and timing will start to come back to you as you just lazily, but correctly, muddle through this drill.

Maintaining angles is what this is about.

The golf ball should be getting off the ground crisply and may have a slight right to left movement. That is just fine. But if it is moving left to right you will need to pay attention to clubhead path. Make sure you are hitting the inside of the ball.

You are entitled to a slight weight shift with this drill if you like, but it isn't really necessary.

A very fast review on angles, there are two we are concerned with. The angle of the right wrist to the right forearm. This is the " trayed" right wrist position. That's one.

note: the left wrist should not be in the awful "cupped" position.

And two is the angle that is formed by the shaft and the right forearm. That's two.

The latter, in this drill, will be about 90 degrees as the left arm is parallel to the ground and the shaft is pointed straight up in toward the sky.

Keep this angle.

Take it casually here as you work out the stress of being the driving range laughing stock. In a matter of moments your swing will be back and you will shut them all up.

Nice feeling right?

Oh .. if you read the article on what lag is, you would have read about the drill, bump and drop.

This is an excellent drill to work on your angles and know what they are and how they feel. And the neat part of this drill is that you will never get negative feedback as you will not be hitting any golf balls.

Happy now?

If there is a magic move it's in this bump and drop move. Harvey Penick knew it and wrote about this exact move in his " Little Red Book"

So let me be clear that I did not make this one up. Harvey did. Try it. It works.

Golf Instruction Manual Review

My first impression of the book is MULTI-FUNCTIONAL. The book has very clear text, diagrams, pictures and written in an easy to understand language. Diagrams in various sizes with clear notations to make any student "marvel in amazement" at this organized book.

A big WOW from me.

The book is NOT a narrative story that just happens to have some basics thrown in, as a requirement. Nor does it try and show off a professional life and times. This book is for students of the game.

The book has a disciplined fundamental approach to golf with key tips on the grip, the swing, addressing the ball, understanding why a ball hooks, chipping, putting, and so on. Teaching in building blocks that are strongly supported by images, diagrams and text descriptions.

The book goes into level two golf, talking about acceleration of ball, reading the green, correct allignment for various shots. This is like a handbook for those in the first year beginner to fifth year of playing golf. It shows advanced techniques such as the push and pull shots. Swing play from an angle on a hill, etc.

The book is NOT a story of golf jokes. Nor does it dwell on past times and memories of a guy or gal playing back in the good old days. If you want a fiction book, or a good bed side read -- forget this. You need to be a student, and want to learn.

The book also talks about buying the right equipment. Wow, this is great information. Also about golf etiquiette and golf rules. If I am to ever
teach golf, this would be a required reading. If I am to take any courses in golf, I hope they teach from this book.

But wait, I am just an "amazon" kind of guy. So, there you have it.

Have a nice day. And, enjoy this book.

Worked for me - F. B. Eckhoff - Fullerton, CA USA
Thru inactivity my golf game had deteriorated so much that I no longer wanted to play. When I would go to the range I would mostly hit hosel rockets. I bought this book, Golf Mags Best Instruction Book Ever, a cheap hitting mat, some wiffle balls and a Swingyde to help gauge my wrist hinge. A month later and I think my swing may be the best it has ever been. Both books offered tips that helped me build a correct and more dependable swing.

Excellent guide for intermediate and beginner level - A. Alva - ADELPHI, MD United States
I have been playing golf for 2 months (took lessons, pored over videos on internet, read many books including Hogan's,Hank Haney's,Leadbetter's, read golf magazines such as Golf Digest and Golf Tips) and I would say this book is one I take to the practice range. At the end of each practice session,I write down a list of what went right and what went wrong. I then flip through the section that covers my problem (the book is well organized for that),learn the drill, fixes and comments on that. Next session,I implement it. It almost always helps.
2 points:Since still pictures and wording can leave a few things unclear, you might have to look up additional sources such as another book/video/professional once in a while. Secondly, as another reviewer noted, in one or two places in the book (of nearly 150 pages),there is what seems to be contradictory advice (one instructor says start high, another says low). In a few other places where you think the same thing's happening, upon careful reading, the shots are slightly different.
Overall, an excellent bargain. You can buy the book alone without DVD for less than 12 bucks. Even better deal as the DVD is limited.

A Full Golf Swing is a Must For Distance

Achieving a full golf swing can be something which many golfers wish for. Most players know that if you can perfect the swing, then you are likely to have a much better game overall. This is because if the swing is hard, fast and accurate then the ball will travel closer to the hole right at the beginning of the game. It will then take less shots for it to be potted and your score will be better.

If you can get a good start like this then your confidence will be better and this should help you to play better as well. It is very important to be happy with the way that you are playing as if you are not happy then your game is likely to get even worse as a result. Even by improving your game just a little bit, you should find that your confidence will be boosted and you will feel much happier and play better.

To get a better swing you may think that the only answer is to pay for some expensive lessons from a golf trainer. This is likely to help you to improve but you will still need to keep practising the new techniques and make sure that you are following the advice that you have been given or else it will be a waste of time. You will not achieve anything if you do not keep working at it and if you do not think that you have the time to commit to it then you may as well not bother making a start really.

However, most people can take some time to practise, even it is during a TV program or in your lunch hour at work. Remember that if you can master the technique of a full golf swing and it becomes a new habit, you will not need to practise this aspect so much any more. There are many resources to choose from that you can use in order to help, even if you cannot afford professional lessons.

It may even be better for you to work through a book, DVD or website at your own pace, rather than having a few quick lessons which could be expensive. It also means that you can keep going back over it if you need to and also choose the bits that you feel you need most help with.

If you have mastered the techniques but feel like you are getting a bit rusty, you can go back to the DVD, book or website and look back over the exercises or information and do some more work again. Choose something which you think you will easily be able to work with, a medium which is convenient for you and something in a good price range.

You will find that there is lots of choice and it is worth looking through them and taking some time doing this, so that you choose the one which is best suited to your needs.

The Double Plane Golf Swing Can Be Confusing

A double plane golf swing is something that many new players tend to have. It can be very difficult to get a nice smooth swing action, especially when you first start playing. You may have had one yourself when you first started out or you may still have one now. If you do have then you may want to change your swing to a smoother one plane action.

It can be very difficult to achieve this. However many practice exercises you go through, instructions you read and swings you practice at the driving range, you may find that yo just cannot eliminate the double plane swing action. You may find that by improving your fitness you will improve you golf swing. It may sound like a new idea and something that you have not tried before.

However it does make a lot of sense. If you muscles are more flexible and stringer then you should be better able to carry out the correct techniques during the golf swing. It is well worth a try - a simple exercise routine could really help you and could even be lots of fun.

It is good for your body anyway so will not be a waste of time - imagine having tight abdominals, legs, arms and lower back muscles it could even help you to look better! You should be able to hold the positions for longer and more accurately and therefore it could give you a much better chance of eliminating your double plane golf swing.

Do you want to discover the secret to creating more power and consistency in your golf swing... AND eliminating ALL your swing faults?

Online Video Golf Instruction - Good, Bad Or Ugly?

There are many forms of golf instruction available to the golfer today. They include books, magazines, television, and personal instruction. But one of the best ways to improve your golf game is by watching video using your computer and the internet.

Using short video clips allow the golfer to focus on each of the small parts of a golf swing. Whether you are trying to use the correct grip or develop the proper follow through, you will find multiple golf instruction videos on each and every subject. And if you want to work on your chipping or putting, the supply of help is almost endless.

Another great thing about using video for golf instruction is the ability to replay it over and over. You can rewind and freeze the action so you can see the exact positions of the swing. When the video is produced in slow motion, it is incredible how precise you can be in stopping the action exactly where you want. The SwingVision videos of the PGA Tour professionals are some of the best for this.

I found a great online golf instruction video on sand traps. I know that the green side bunker shot has given me trouble. When I watch the PGA Tour on tv, it always amazes me when the commentator talks about how fortunate the player was to put it in the bunker or how they are sometimes even trying to hit the sand trap. Not me - I guess I kinda panic with thoughts of leaving it in the bunker over and over. This video will definately help my game. I can't wait to get to the driving range and actually practice it.

Using Golf Instruction to Improve Your Game

Golf instruction is vital if you are just starting out playing golf. You must know all the rules and codes of practice before you start. The last thing you would want is to upset someone else by not following the rules un-knowingly. So it is important to research before you begin.

Attending a golf school is a great way to improve your knowledge and in fact, many of them will teach you the same golf instruction that many players part of the Professional Golfers Association know.

Here is a brief golf instruction list to help you:

1. Did you know that as early as the 1300's people used golf instruction in their game? It's true, they let each golfer take their turn when playing each shot.

2. Learn From Golf Books

Golf books have been around since 1857 and can make a great way to learn the game. Pictures and tips can even make golf instruction fun and enjoyable. It doesn't have to be all hard work you know!

3. Learn From Fellow Golfers

If you are just starting out, then why not just go down to your local golf course and get to know some of the golfers there. Many of them will be happy to give you any advice for free and some of them will share vital tips to you too. This can be a great short cut in your golf instruction.

Whatever your aim in playing golf, there are always people willing to help you for free. If you cannot find any help then you can always pay for it. You can buy books, videos, even golf DVD's to help you.

And of course there are many golf coaches who will give you all the golf instruction you need. Yes, they will charge you a fee for it but what better way is there to learn from someone who knows the game inside out.

So the main thing is just start to research and go out and enjoy the game as often as you can. You won't regret it.

Golf Training Tips - Hit the Golf Ball Further Every Time

We want and sometimes need to hit the golf ball a distance, right.

So you want to be able to hit your golf ball a long way.

Take a golfer, any golfer and if you have a couple of hours ask them how they are hitting the ball.

" I'm hitting my drivers great but my long iron play absolutely sucks!"

Ask the same golfer the same question a week later.

"I'm stiffing my long irons like a pro, but I'm hitting my woods like a bum"

As golfers we all want to improve our long game, so we have to sometimes analyse why certain things keep happening and why we are inconsistent.

The problem with golf is we use so many different tools to play the game, add to this each club requires a slightly different approach so its no wonder we can get a little confused.

In terms of hitting the ball further think of it in this way, if you can sweep the ball off the tee with your drivers and hit down on the ball with your long irons you are more than half way to being a good distance player. The key is to remember to try and alternate between these two fundamental concepts and you will hit the ball further.

Drivers are usually the longest clubs in your bag (unless you're using a long putter). This means you are standing further away from the ball, which has the effect of making your swing more rounded.

The real secret to lowering your score is to remember what a driver is for. It is designed to hit the golf ball a long way in order to put it in a position for your next shot. Drivers do not have much loft and so are teed up in such a way as to encourage you to sweep the ball off the tee for maximum launch angle and distance.

Driving in golf can sometimes be overly "macho" and land us in trouble, it isn't really about showing the guys how far you can smack a golf ball (although that is fun) its about hitting the ball as far as possible, as accurately as possible.

There is an old saying in golf that "The woods are full of long drivers", I guess that's probably true, but it should probably read, "The woods are full of wayward long drivers".

Peter Croker's Path To Better Golf: The Revolutionary Swing Technique for Power, Control, and Consistency Review

Most golf instruction is like chiropractic. The "instructor" moves your body into unnatural positions and tells you that "everything is going to be better". Nothing gets better, but you give them money.

Mr. Croker's method is different. I would suggest first reading the chapter that explains why all of the truisms of "regular" instruction are wrong.

This book will be particularly welcome for those golfers who used to be able to play but have lost their swings. This book will take you back to the way you swung "naturally", and better, as a kid. Back to the days when you just hit the ball.

Professional athletes seem to like to convince you that what they are doing is rocket science and a profound mental exercise. Probably makes them feel smarter. This book tells you that the correct way to think about hitting a golf ball is simple. Some will be better able to do it than others as they have more natural ability, but complicated techniques are ultimately silly.

I understand Mr. Croker is a very nice man. He is also a very smart one.

Peter Croker's Path To Better Golf: The Revolutionary Swing Technique for Power, Control, and Consistency Overview

In his Path to Better Golf, Peter Croker sets out to completely change the way golfers learn to swing the club. He begins by stripping away all the misinformation that golfers have picked up while trying to improve their game. Then he introduces his Push action movement designed to help create a more natural and coordinated swing. The Push Action Swing requires very little practice to perfect and allows golfers to hit the ball more powerfully and accurately with less stress on the back.

Croker demonstrates that like hockey and baseball, golf is a hitting game. At the basic level, you need to learn how to hit the ball instead of relying on a technique to do it for you.

Too Simplistic - -
I found the idea certainly novel but as I read along it became to simplistic to cure all bad golf swings. Not very helpful to me at all.

A brilliant book by an excellent teacher... - Moviegoer -
Peter Croker's method is truly revolutionary. I attended one of his first U.S. workshops about five years ago as a frustrated twelve- handicapper and the techniques I learned from Croker turned my game around. The book is a no-nonsense explication of Peter's principles. The Push-Action swing that Croker advocates is easy to learn, and many of the innovative drills can be practiced away from the golf course. Traditionalists may balk at a swing model based on the idea of pushing the clubhead through the ball with the hands, arms, and body-- in other words, a 'hitting' rather than a 'pulling' action-- but my experience with this method has been very positive.

Golf Shotmaker Manual Review

Golf Shotmaker Manual Overview

The Golf Shotmaker Manual from Dynalign Golf details a new and dynamic approach to pre-shot alignment that can provide superior control over the ultimate issue in hitting any type of golf shot; clubface alignment at impact. Dynamic pre-shot alignment also can provide superior putting accuracy by minimizing undesirable potential motion from the golfer's hands and wrists that causes the putter face to vary from the intended line. The path of the putter and alignment of the putter face throughout the stroke are improved and stabilized as a result of the Dynalign technique. Dynamic alignment completely eliminates the need for training aids such as arc type putting templates, hinged clubs, hinged gloves, swing plane guides, swing vest systems, or wrist braces. For advanced golfers, the Dynalign technique shows how to produce intentional draws and fades at chosen trajectories. For the majority of players, who suffer the bane of chronic slicing and inconsistent putting, Dynalign can provide both improved shot control and short game skills. Dynamic pre-shot alignment provides for more accurate shotmaking by helping to synchronize wrist pronation and supination with clubface alignment through the impact zone. Golfers are able to release the clubhead with confidence when they know the clubface angle will be correct for their chosen ball flight pattern. The difficult requirement of correctly timing wrist rotation through impact can be significantly reduced resulting in greatly improved accuracy in full shots for golfers of all skill levels. Course management skills and strategy can also be improved by the planned draws and fades that the Dynalign technique teaches. Dynamic club fitting has become the industry standard technique for custom fitting golf clubs because it is more accurate than outdated static golf club fitting measurements. The Golf Shotmaker Manual shows how to apply a dynamic process to pre-shot alignment that similarly is more accurate than the current static alignment technique of square stance and two knuckles of the leading hand grip showing at address. The Golf Shotmaker Manual is geared for serious golfers who are intent on improving their game. For golfers who have tried various swing methods and training aids that do not provide lasting results, The Golf Shotmaker Manual offers a technique that can increase enjoyment of the game and lower scores.
